Comparison: Trinity Pro vs. F90+ – The new features and differences at a glance

In the world of drones, development never stands still and companies like Quantum Systems continue to set new standards. With their latest VTOL drone, the Trinity Pro, Quantum Systems has once again proven that they are one of the most innovative drone manufacturers in the industry. The Trinity Pro is the upgraded successor to the already powerful and efficient Trinity F90+. In this post, we’ll take a look at the many improvements and new features of the Trinity Pro, including how it differs from the Trinity F90+.

New hardware at a glance

DThe new Trinity Pro has not only been equipped with improved hardware, but also offers a variety of new features compared to its predecessor. One of the most important new features is the autopilot – the “brain” of any drone. The Trinity Pro features the Quantum Skynode Autopilot with integrated Companion Computer, which not only has more processing power and internal memory, but also offers improved connectivity. The Companion Computer has been integrated for AI-assisted tasks, which will make it much easier for users to perform workflows in the future.

The new Autopilot also enabled improved hardware integration within the Trinity Pro. This means that the components in the system exchange more information with each other than in the previous version. This allows the Trinity Pro to perform a comprehensive self-check before flight, this increases safety and gives the user more confidence in the system.

Quantum Systems has also improved the motors during the development of the Trinity Pro. These are now more powerful than their predecessor and ensure that the drone can withstand winds of up to 18 m/s, compared to 12 m/s for the previous model. In addition, the Trinity Pro can now fly to an altitude of up to 5500 m (3,4 miles) above sea level (N.N. / AMSL), which is a significant increase compared to the previous 4800 m (3 miles).

Thanks to the new motors, a vertical takeoff of up to 60 meters is now possible, compared to 30 meters for the previous Trinity F90+ version. This expands the possibilities of using the drone in environments with high obstacles, such as buildings or trees, and makes it easier to launch it safely in such situations.

The Trinity Pro is equipped with a down facing LiDAR that enables an extremely handy feature: terrain following. This means that the drone continuously measures the distance to the ground and automatically adjusts its flight altitude; this can also be helpful during landing to estimate the distance to the ground more accurately. So unlike the previous model, there is no need to set additional waypoints to compensate for uneven terrain. This innovative feature greatly simplifies flight planning and saves time and effort.

In the event of faulty flight planning or unforeseen changes at the flight location, the down facing LiDAR also offers a new safety function. As soon as the distance to the ground is less than 30 m, the Trinity autonomously climbs to an altitude of 80 m to avoid collisions with obstacles.

The new ground range finder also enables a new landing maneuver called “A to B” landing, or remote landing. This new landing maneuver allows the Trinity Pro to land at a location other than the launch point after its mission, and can therefore optimize the overall workflow.

The new Trinity’s optimized data interface is a small but highly effective improvement. With the new USB-C port, flight data can now be downloaded in a fraction of the time compared to the Trinity F90+. While downloading data from a 90 min flight with the Trinity F90+ took about 15 minutes, it can now be done in less than 5 minutes. In other words, the Trinity Pro’s improved data interface increases efficiency and reduces time on the ground.

The Trinity Pro’s new controller may look familiar to some – it’s a custom Xbox Series X controller made for Quantum Systems. The new controller is not only visually impressive, but also haptically: it feels wonderful in the hand and offers a comfortable flying experience.

Usually, the controller is only used to readjust the position of the Trinity Pro during take-off & landing if necessary. For this purpose, the controller is connected to the in-house flight planning software called QBase 3D via the laptop. However, the actual mission is automated by the drone. This means that the Trinity Pro flies independently and performs all tasks without the controller having to be used during the process.

Optimized Software

With the release of the Trinity Pro, Quantum Systems not only offers improved hardware, but also optimized software that brings numerous new features and improvements.

Quantum Systems has optimized the planning algorithms in their flight planning software QBase 3D as well as added new landing figures. Previously, the Trinity had only one landing maneuver where it flew a spiral around the loading point, losing altitude in the process. This took up a lot of space and could be problematic with taller objects near the launch site. The new landing maneuvers in QBase 3D introduced, among other things, a straight-line return to the landing point. This makes both flight planning and the landing itself much less complicated. The straight-line landing figure will also be available for the Trinity F90+ in the future.

Who hasn’t experienced this? Lots of data in different storage locations can quickly lead to chaos, and once important data is lost, proper processing can no longer be performed. This is frustrating and usually costs a lot of time. That’s why Quantum Systems has come up with something for this as well. In the future, QBase 3D will not only be able to plan and monitor routes and prepare data for processing, but will also take over the management of project files. For this purpose, Quantum Systems will integrate a file manager into their flight planning software, which will make the work even easier and more efficient. Also the user interface will be modernized and refreshed a bit, so be excited about the upcoming update and experience QBase 3D in new splendor!

New Design & Certifications

The most obvious change to the new Trinity Pro: the new design. It is now gray with neon yellow stripes, making it not only a real eye-catcher, but also making it easier to see from a distance. With the C3 certification, you can already fly the Trinity with the A1 or A3 drone license. In addition, the Trinity Pro has received IP54 certification, which means that it is officially protected against dust and splashing water and can therefore be used safely in the rain or in dusty environments.

Not only has the Trinity changed visually, but so have its payloads. These are now in black and offer the advantage that contaminants are no longer as clearly visible as before. A total of 6 different payloads are available for the Trinity. These include a LiDAR scanner, multispectral cameras and various RGB sensors. With this selection of payloads, the Trinity Pro is capable of handling a wide range of tasks.

The Trinity Pro also has the ability to store a Remote ID. Remote ID is a system for identifying and locating drones in real time. It allows aviation authorities and other authorized parties to obtain important information about the drone, such as its position, altitude, speed and operator ID. Thus, aerospace safety continues to be enhanced.

Scope of delivery & accessories

Although the new Trinity is slightly more expensive than its predecessor, it offers significant added value thanks to the standard scope of delivery with 3 batteries, instead of just one battery as with its predecessor. One particularly welcome piece of news for owners of the Trinity F90+: all batteries, payloads and attachments are fully compatible with the Trinity Pro. So if you already own a Trinity F90+ and are thinking about upgrading, you can continue to use your existing attachments and accessories on the new Trinity Pro. Both the new spare parts of the Trinity Pro and the existing accessories of the F90+ can be used on both models.

Those who already have experience with the predecessor model, the Trinity F90+, certainly know the problem with the somewhat unwieldy transport case. But Quantum Systems has also found a remedy for this with the new Trinity Pro. In the future, a backpack will be optionally available, with which the Trinity Pro incl. 2 batteries can be transported comfortably on the back. This is particularly advantageous if the starting point can only be reached via a long walk.

Also included is the iBase Station, a PPK (Post Processing Kinematic) base station from Quantum Systems. An anemometer is also included, which can be used to measure the current weather conditions on site and thus ensure a safe launch.

In the future, more accessories will be available for the Trinity Pro, such as a parachute that will allow the Trinity Pro to be used safely in urban areas.

First Class Customer Service

Quantum Systems customers know how good their customer service is, and it’s about to get even better! To that end, the company has launched a new customer portal that provides numerous documents and a variety of detailed video tutorials. In addition, a Customer Success Team is available for the first 90 days after purchase to provide personal support for any questions or problems and to ensure successful operation of the Trinity. This comprehensive support and assistance ensures an all-around positive buying experience, higher customer satisfaction and is included in the purchase price of the Trinity Pro.

Conclusion

The Trinity Pro from Quantum Systems is an improved version and a worthy successor to their already powerful Trinity F90+ drone. The numerous small changes and improvements add up to a significant increase in efficiency and safety.
